Citibank: Texas branch sale part of larger strategy

A Citibank official downplayed the bank’s move to sell all its Austin branches and disputed the notion that Citibank is shifting its emphasis to commercial banking.
The decision to sell 21 Texas branches, including seven in Central Texas, to North Carolina-based BB&T Corp. (NYSE: BBT) is based on several factors, including an "alignment" with Citibank’s strategy, real estate and economic conditions, spokesman Andrew Brent said.
