Austin office furniture company shuffles top executives

Rockford Business Interiors, a division of McCoy-Rockford Inc., said Friday that CEO Stan Bunting is shifting his role to become chairman of the Austin office furniture retailer’s board and president of its furniture division.
He will be succeeded as CEO by Ken Beaver. Supporting Bunting in his new role will be Austin-area Rockford executive Cotton Carlson, who will also change jobs by moving from the company’s president of new ventures and implementation to become vice chairman of the board.

FlowBelow completes first major trucking company contract

After five years of development, aerodynamic systems maker FlowBelow Aero Inc. reached its first major deal to supply its product to a 1,200 semi-tractor trucking company in New Mexico.
Executives at Austin-based FlowBelow said the deal with Mesilla Valley Transportation Inc. is expected to raise the company’s profile in the trucking industry and lead to other business.

Austin attorney appointed to workers’ compensation post

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Austinite Jessica Corna as the Injured Employee Public Counsel, the Governor’s Office said Friday.
Corna will help guide injured employees through the workers’ compensation system, advocate on their behalf, and oversee the office’s ombudsman program.
Corna, who earned her bachelor’s degree and law degree from Indiana University, is currently the assistant director of governmental relations at the Texas Department of Insurance, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Q3 losses mount for Pain Therapeutics

Pain Therapeutics Inc. said it recorded a$3.5 million loss for the third quarter, its third straight quarter of reporting no revenue. The latest results bring the pharmaceutical developer’s 2014 losses to $10.2 million, or 23 cents per share.
The company’s stock lost 50 percent of its value on Oct. 27 when it announced that pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. was ending a partnership with the Austin drug maker that sought to develop the painkiller Remoxy. All rights to the drug were returned to the…

NY Times ends content deals with Texas Tribune, Texas Monthly

The Texas Tribune and Texas Monthly’s content deal with the New York Times will end at the end of 2014 as a result of cutbacks at the newspaper that also resulted in a recent round of layoffs and eliminations of some sections and online apps.
The Tribune was notified of the decision Thursday night and will lose $120,000, or 2 percent of its annual revenue, that it saw through the deal that had it producing content twice a week for the paper’s Texas edition. About 25 percent of that money went to…

Austin kicks off Formula 1 weekend with mayor’s reception (Slideshow)

Hundreds of Austin business leaders and city officials were on hand for the official reception on Thursday evening to kick off the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix weekend.
The event was held at the Palmer Events Center and featured music, food and, of course, some libations — including a special drink concocted in honor of Mayor Lee Leffingwell, who will step down this year. The "Leffingwell Delight" cocktail included Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Chambord, lemonade and a raspberry garnish.
