Austin chefs earn Food & Wine honors

The founders of Olamaie — a new Austin restaurant oozing with Southern charm — have been named to "Food & Wine" magazine’s Best New Chefs list.
Chefs Michael Fojtasek and Grae Nonas were given the exclusive honor along with nine other chefs around the country. They are the only Texas chefs to make the cut.
Fojtasek and Nonas will be featured in the July issue of Food & Wine and showcased at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado, in June.

Freebirds Burrito moves HQ to Austin

Freebirds World Burrito has moved its headquarters to Austin from its former home in Emeryville, California, with its Northwest Austin offices at Great Hills Corporate Center serving as the company’s new main office.

Texas lawmakers take up major windstorm insurance overhaul bills

Two key senators introduced bills Tuesday that are intended to address ongoing issues in the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association.
As Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-Brownsville, noted, lawmakers, counties and business leaders have spent the last three sessions trying to fix what ails the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. TWIA finances are improving, but still inadequate, to cover a large-scale storm in the wake of Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Mozido invests in Austin payments software startup

Mozido Inc. has made a strategic investment in Austin-based software maker SimplyTapp Inc.
The two companies did not disclose the amount the investment. The deal is expected to give Mozido access to SimplyTapp’s mobile payment software, according to a Tuesday announcement.

Former Railroad Commissioner takes job at Austin energy law firm

Barry Smitherman, former chair of the Texas Railroad Commission and the Public Utility Commission of Texas, has been named as a new partner in Austin for Houston-based law firm Vinson & Elkins LLP’s energy regulatory practice.
According to the announcement, Smitherman will work from the company’s Austin office starting April 1.
Smitherman is the only person to have ever served on both the RRC and PUC. He served in the PUC from 2004-2011. He followed that with his tenure on the RRC from 2011-2014.…

Oil field blues: FieldPoint sees revenue, production drop in 2014
