Here’s how Austin’s apartment market stacks up

As high as rents have risen in Austin, leasing prices seem pretty affordable compared to other areas in the country, according to a year end review report by Apartment List, a San Francisco internet-based research and online rental company.
The median price of a two-bedroom unit is $1,080 here, nearly 7 percent more than a year ago. While that’s a significant jump, rents have increase more than 10 percent in markets such as Anaheim, California; Las Vegas; Long Beach, California; Marietta, Georgia;…

Austin tech leader: The industry’s identity crisis is over

Austin’s technology community is getting over its identity crisis.
Julie Huls, the six-year departing president of the Austin Technology Council, said Tuesday tech execs have come to grips with what differentiates the local industry and have embraced those characteristics. That dynamic was largely absent when she took the ATC’s lead position in 2009.
“Six years ago, I think there was really a lot of identity confusion and identity envy as it relates to Silicon Valley,” she said. “We were…

One week before a scheduled vote by shareholders, a SolarWinds Inc. shareholder has filed a class-action lawsuit to stop the software company’s sale to two private equity firms, claiming the $4.5 billion price undervalues the Austin-based software developer.

6 people to watch with real estate clout in 2016

Cases in point: Endeavor Real Estate Group, Riverside Resources, Cypress Real Estate Advisors and CWS Capital Partners, to name a few. Though there’s plenty of leadership strength guiding those enterprises, individuals…
