Dell-EMC merger passes another regulatory hurdle

Dell Inc.’s proposed $67 billion acquisition of EMC Corp. has received regulatory approval from the European Union’s executive body.
The European Commission OK’d the takeover without conditions. The transaction still needs the approval of EMC (NYSE: EMC) shareholders, according to a Monday statement from both companies.

Political leanings of Austin’s tech community skew left, report says

Austin techies lean heavily Democrat but have a Libertarian streak.
That’s according to a comprehensive review of campaign donation records conducted by the Austin American-Statesman. Technology workers donated $83,814 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in the 2016 election cycle through Feb. 10, while also donating $35,894 to her opponent in the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders, the report said.

Austin airport traffic climbs to start 2016

Passenger traffic at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport rose 12 percent in January compared to the same month in 2015, according to new numbers from the airport.
In all, 873,560 passengers either took off from or landed at ABIA in January, the best start of a year for the airport since at least 2012, according to the data. For comparison, during March 2015, when ABIA was flooded with visitors for South By Southwest, the airport saw just over 1 million passengers arrive or depart.

Austin developer cleared in 6-year-old fraud lawsuit

Austin real estate developer Peter Barlin has been cleared of any wrongdoing in a six-year-old federal fraud lawsuit.

UT System set to open hospital on Gulf Coast

Austin firm chosen to design Smithville ISD school bond package

O’Connell Robertson Architects has been chosen to design projects for a possible $24 million facilities bond election for the Smithville school district southeast of Austin.

Austin medical device company delisted from NYSE amid accounting error investigation

Hanger Inc., an Austin-based clinic network and creator of medical orthotics and prosthetics, remains mired in a disclosure dilemma as it investigates past accounting errors.
