Texas Senate passes statewide rules for short-term rentals; House bill still pending

A bill that would roll back Austin’s regulations of short-term home rentals has cleared a major hurdle in the Texas Legislature.
The Texas Senate voted 21-9 Tuesday to pass Senate Bill 451, the Texas Tribune reports. The lower chamber’s companion bill, House Bill 2551, is still pending before the House Urban Affairs Committee.
SB 451, by Sen. Kelly Hancock of North Richland Hills, would prevent Texas cities from banning short-term rentals and restrict cities’ oversight powers.
