Texas House committee strips revenue caps from property tax cuts bill, which now heads to Senate

A House committee in the Texas Legislature on Friday cut a controversial revenue-cap proposal out of its version of a property tax bill working its way through the assembly, a move likely to be opposed in the Senate.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and his allies in the upper chamber have touted Senate Bill 2 as this session’s primary tax cut bill. It would require cities, counties and other local jurisdictions that raise property taxes above a certain percentage to seek voter approval.
