Mayor wants to divert hotel taxes to help Austin’s downtown homeless

Mayor Steve Adler has unveiled details of a plan to address homelessness in downtown Austin.
One element of the plan, outlined in a Sunday evening post on the City Council message board, calls for the creation of a tourism public improvement district to help pay for social services and for upgrades to the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, or ARCH, at 500 East Seventh St.
