YuMe Study Reveals VR Advertising Delivers Highly Memorable Brand Experiences

YuMe, Inc., a proven partner for video advertising leadership and innovation, in partnership with a number of industry heavy hitters, has just released the results of a new virtual reality (VR) in-game advertising study.

The study compared consumer responses to three forms of VR advertising — a pre-roll video ad, brand logos present in-game and 3D branded objects inserted into interactive game play.

The findings revealed that, overall, VR advertising is highly memorable with 70% aided recall across all ad formats. The highest levels of brand recall occurred with the pre-roll video ad, which achieved 90% aided recall on the day the study was conducted.

“We believe our study indicates that VR advertising is highly memorable in any format. It’s encouraging to see that a video ad, the most familiar and high-performing digital format, also delivers the highest rate of ad recall in the VR world,” said Mireya Arteaga, Research Lead, YuMe. “We believe immersive advertising is on the rise. Its ability to deliver a compelling branded-content message that is interactive, engaging and offers consumers the ability to own their ad experience is very attractive to today’s advertisers.”

Ripl App Launches New Way For SMB’s To Connect With Customers On Facebook Pages

MMW has learned that Ripl, Inc. — a leading small business mobile marketing software provider — is giving small and medium-sized businesses worldwide a seamless, simple way to directly respond to Facebook Page customer feedback on their posts.

Now launching on Android, the Facebook Page post feature was recently rolled out on all Ripl iOS apps.

Ripl users are primarily micro-business proprietors who use the software to create, post and track branded videos for social media. Ripl’s users can now communicate and respond directly to their followers’ activity on Facebook Pages from within Ripl. Responding to Facebook Page comments directly from push notifications will also roll out to Ripl users later this month.

Ripl COO Clay McDaniel said that the new customer relationship management (“CRM”) features are a natural extension of Ripl’s strength—helping small businesses create social media content with high visibility and engagement rates. “Successful small businesses use the power and immediacy of digital communications to acknowledge their customers and keep them engaged,” McDaniel said. “Now, Ripl users talking with people who engage through Facebook Page posts can close the loop.”

PushSpring Teams with Pinsight to Expand Audience Targeting Data

PushSpring, a leading independent app-based mobile audience platform, announced ahead of the weekend a new data offering from Pinsight, the leading first-party mobile data and insights provider.

MMW has learned that marketers will now be able to leverage Pinsight’s carrier-level demographic, interest and intent data via PushSpring’s self-serve Audience Console.

This agreement marks an expansion of audience targeting capabilities for existing customers of the PushSpring Audience Console allowing marketers to build custom audiences including app ownership data from PushSpring combined with carrier-level Pinsight data.

The Audience Console will also include more than 20 curated Pinsight Personas, making it easy for marketers to execute a campaign based on a specific target audience. Unlike other segments, Pinsight Personas are built upon a foundation of verified, first-party mobile data. These audiences are continually updated to reflect the genuine, real-time lifestyle and intent of mobile consumers.

“The real advantage for marketers is the ability to expand targeting beyond audiences who have downloaded an app,” a provdied release explains. “For example, in the beauty category, audiences of women who have downloaded a makeup app can now be enhanced with the Pinsight “Fashionista” data set. These Pinsight Personas can also be accessed across PushSpring’s vast network of integrated destination platform partners.”

The Cost of Ad Fraud Continues to Grow

The findings of a new report from Juniper Research are nothing short of startling.

Data suggests that advertisers will likely lose an estimated $19 billion to fraudulent activities next year.

All told, that’s equivalent to $51 million per day.

This figure, representing advertising on online and mobile devices, will continue to rise, reaching $44 billion by 2022, a media release summarizes.

Juniper’s new research, Future Digital Advertising – AI, Ad Fraud & Ad Blocking 2017-2022, claimed that the ‘Walled Garden’, a closed platform approach whereby advertising platforms restrict the flow of advertising performance data to advertisers and publishers must be abandoned to stimulate transparency between stakeholders. The report found that advertising fraud rates will continue to increase as a result of this, further hindering stakeholder efforts in tackling fraud.

What’s more, the Juniper team says that the research predicted that AI will be crucial in analysing the vast amounts of data generated from advertising activities daily and minimizing loss due to fraud. It predicted that fraudsters will increasingly innovate in their approaches to imitate genuine advertising activity including simulated clicks, mouse movements and social network accounts.

“Fraudsters will continue to heavily invest in domains, user accounts and bot farms in order to appear genuine” argued research author Sam Barker. “Advertising stakeholders will demand constant vigilance against the threat of ad fraud, which will only be achieved through the correct implementation of AI services”.

Youth Business: New Research Finds Major Spike in Mobile Media Use

Ahead of the weekend, Common Sense announced the release of The Common Sense Census: Media Use by Kids Age Zero to Eight, the third installment in an ongoing series of national surveys tracking the use of media and technology among U.S. children from birth to age 8.

Among the key findings is the spike in the number of young children who have their own tablet device (now 42 percent, up from 1 percent in 2011) and the amount of time children age 0 to 8 are spending with mobile devices (48 minutes, up from just five minutes in 2011).

The Common Sense Census: Media Use by Kids Age Zero to Eight is based on a large, nationally representative sample of respondents and replicates methods from 2011 and 2013 to gauge how media environments and behaviors have changed over the years. At a time of revolutionary change in the media landscape, the study is the only one of its kind, tracking young children’s use of new mobile media devices and apps along with older media platforms such as television, computers, and books.

In light of the new research, Common Sense is launching a series of new PSAs featuring actor Will Ferrell as a continuation of its ongoing #DeviceFreeDinner campaign. The campaign challenges parents and kids to put down their devices during dinnertime and enjoy in-person conversation. The new ads were developed in partnership with Bay Area advertising agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

“In today’s tech-driven world, where things are moving so quickly, it is really important to step back and take a hard look at what technology kids are using and how they are using it,” said James P. Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense. “Over the last six years, we have seen massive growth in media use and tablet ownership, and we haven’t even begun to experience the explosion of new technologies like virtual reality and voice-activated assistants in our homes. If we want to ensure our kids develop well and are successful in life, we have to make sure they get the most out of tech while protecting them from potential risks — and that means paying close attention to the role media is playing in their lives.”
